“We are the reckless, we are the wild youth
Chasing visions of our futures
One day, we’ll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there”
That’s a line from Daughter’s song “Youth” that captures this moment perfectly. Listen on Spotify. The song gives hope and takes it away at the same time - that reckless spirit we’re clinging to, even as everything tries to wear us down.
We are still trying like crazy. We are trying not to lose the passion and surrender to the dark fate of our world, our country, our people, and our friends. It’s hard these days to stay human, stay sane, and stay vulnerable when you don’t always have control over any of it.
My chat today with my friends was a bit dark and depressing, but it had some hopes underneath worth celebrating. At least we can recognize that we are still there, and we are still trying.
“And if you’re still breathing, you’re the lucky ones
’Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs”
That’s the victory in all this. Not some big win, but just the stubborn act of not giving up. Of holding onto that reckless, wild spirit when the world tells you to give up. We’re still here. We’re still trying. And maybe our stubborn trying is enough.
